Quick answer: A life coach usually costs somewhere between $75 and $300 or more per session. Multi-week packages often run from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. The International Coaching Federation’s 2023 Global Coaching Study found the average one-hour session was $244 worldwide and $272 in North America. Price depends on the coach’s experience, niche, and what’s included.
Before I was a coach, I hired one.
I was in the middle of rebuilding my life after my 2022 layoff, and I was still paying off debt. Spending money on coaching was not an easy choice.
It helped. Enough that I went on to get certified through The Life Coach School myself. So I’ve been on both sides of this question, and I want to give you a straight answer.
Here’s a rough picture. These are ranges, not rules.
For a real benchmark, the 2023 ICF Global Coaching Study reported an average of $244 per one-hour session worldwide in 2022, and $272 in North America.

It depends on how often you meet. Here’s some simple math using the ICF’s North American average of $272 per hour:
Those are averages, not quotes. Many coaches charge less, some charge more, and a package can lower the price per session.
Packages are usually a set number of sessions over a few weeks or months. Depending on the coach, a package might also include:
Before you sign up, ask exactly what’s included and how you can reach the coach between sessions.
Price is only part of it. Here’s what I’d look for:
That last one matters. A coach is not a therapist or a doctor. A good one will tell you when you need someone else.
I’d love to tell you yes, every time. That wouldn’t be honest.
It depends on whether you do the work between sessions. A coach can’t live your life for you. What a good one can do is help you see your own thinking more clearly, so you’re not figuring it all out alone at 11 pm.
If money is tight right now, that’s real. I’ve been there. A free tool or a group program might be the right first step, and that’s okay.

Multi-week packages usually range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on how many sessions, how much support between calls, and what tools are included.
At the 2023 ICF North American average of $272 an hour, weekly sessions would run about $1,180 a month, and every-other-week sessions about $590. Many coaches price lower or offer packages.
Look for someone with real experience in what you want to change. Ask what a typical week looks like, and notice how you feel on the discovery call.
It can be, if you’re ready to do the work between sessions. A coach helps you move faster, but she can’t do it for you.
Is it the money? The time? Or a little voice saying you should be able to figure this out yourself? Tell me which one is loudest for you.
