Hey you, happy Friday! This is your weekly catch-up for women over 40. I did all the scrolling for you and checked every item against a real source.

This week: a new law that has mammograms flag heart risk, two big studies on dementia and menopause, caregiving news for the sandwich season, and the official 2027 Social Security raise. We also cover your Medicare and ACA enrollment dates, a scam alert to share with your parents, a recall to check in your medicine cabinet, sales, food deals, what to watch and read, and 10 places to go the weekend of December 11th.

Sunday, October 18th is World Menopause Day, so you’ll hear menopause come up a few times. That’s on purpose.

Your challenge: pick one thing from this episode and do it this weekend.

Your life is full, your responsibilities are real, and your energy isn’t unlimited. So when self-care gets treated like a “nice to have,” it’s only a matter of time before burnout shows up as brain fog, short tempers, restless sleep, and that exhausted feeling that rest doesn’t fix. Self-care in midlife is not a luxury. It’s maintenance.

We start with three affirmations to help you drop the guilt. Then we get practical with a simple meditation rhythm you can do right in bed: a morning intention focused on how you want to feel, and an evening reflection to help you wind down.

From there, we lay out the strategy that makes self-care stick: time blocking. You’ll hear how I build a week that includes workouts, walks, journaling, reading, skincare, social time, meal prep, and true rest, and the 6 types of self-care to cover.

Press play, pick one self-care block to schedule this week, and protect it. Read the full post: Self-Care in Midlife: Why It’s Maintenance, Not a Luxury.

Welcome to the very first Friday Glow Edition of The Midlife GlowGetter Podcast! Every Friday, I share the trending news, events, and releases worth knowing about this week, all picked for women over 40. Grab your coffee. Let’s get into it.

This week: Ben Affleck’s new thriller Animals on Netflix, a new season of The Real Housewives of Potomac, and new fall books from Kelly McGonigal and Ina Garten. Then five new health studies in plain words, from bloating in menopause to a non-hormone hot flash medicine and sleep. In money news: when Social Security’s 2027 raise comes out, Medicare Open Enrollment, savings rates, and your 2026 catch-up room. Plus fall sales, restaurant specials, and 10 real U.S. getaways for December 4 to 13.

You can feel invisible in midlife and still be powerful, respected, and deeply magnetic. We start with a real-life update: I share why my new career in project management in mortgage lending is going so well, what surprised me about thriving in a corporate role at 49, and the boundaries that keep office politics and gossip from stealing my peace. If you’ve been wondering whether it’s too late to change careers at 45 or 50, consider this your proof that a fresh start can actually fit you better than the old path ever did.

Then I say my big goal out loud: by August 2027, I want to be fully remote so I can spend winter as a snowbird, laptop open, somewhere warmer than Ohio. I walk through the practical career strategy behind that dream, from doing excellent work and building daily project management skills to pursuing PMP certification, strengthening networking and LinkedIn, and stacking AI certifications that keep you competitive. You’ll also hear a proud mom moment about my son’s straight A’s while working full time, plus my own Charleston solo trip plans as a “work a little, walk a lot” test run.

The second half gets to the good stuff: how to be more magnetic. We define magnetism as an energy that makes people feel seen, safe, and lifted and we ground it in research on warmth and competence, plus the three learnable pillars of charisma: presence, power, and warmth. If you’ve been shrinking, apologizing too much, or feeling dimmed by years of taking care of everyone else, you’ll get simple steps and a seven-day magnetic challenge you can start today. Listen, share this with a friend who needs a spark, and please subscribe, rate, and review so more women over 40 can find the show.

Fall doesn’t need to slip by in a blur of errands and streaming. I’m treating Fall 2026 like a second New Year, and I’m sharing a cozy, practical plan to make it your best season yet, especially if you’re a woman over 40 who wants routines that feel grounded and doable.

We walk through a full fall lifestyle rebrand that goes way beyond decorations. I talk about creating warm home ambiance with amber lighting, candles, and flannel bedding, plus simple food and drink rituals like warm coffee, chai, and seasonal baking. We also get into the small comforts that change your whole mood, like slippers at the door, a thick robe, and choosing a real book over a screen when you need to reset.

From there, we tighten up the routines that matter in cooler weather: fall skin care swaps (thicker face cream, milky cleanser, hand cream that actually works), a realistic fall wardrobe lineup (boots, trench coats, layers, browns and navy), and wellness habits that help you lock in the end of the year. I share what I’m doing for movement as daylight changes, including indoor walking, gym weights, hot yoga or hot Pilates, vitamin D support, and using a happy light in the morning.

The biggest shift is your calendar. I’ll show you how to pick 1 to 3 local fall plans within a two-hour drive so you actually live the season, plus I share my Northeast Ohio list around Cleveland for extra inspiration. Download the free checklist in the show notes, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review so more midlife women can find the show.
